Frequently Asked Questions

What is APMC cess?

APMC cess (also called market fee) is a levy charged by Agricultural Produce Market Committees on the sale of agricultural produce. It is typically collected from the buyer and deposited with the APMC. Rates vary by state: Maharashtra 1%, Punjab 3%, UP 2%, Karnataka 1.5%.

Who pays APMC cess — buyer or seller?

In most Indian states, APMC cess is paid by the buyer (parchaser). The commission agent collects it along with the sale amount and deposits it with the APMC market committee.

How is APMC cess calculated?

APMC cess = Sale Value × Market Fee %. For example, an onion lot sold for ₹1,00,000 in Maharashtra attracts 1% market fee = ₹1,000. Additional levies like Rural Development Fund may apply in some states.

Are APMC rates the same for all commodities?

Generally, APMC rates are uniform within a state. Some states have different rates for horticultural vs grain produce. A few APMCs waive fees on some perishables. This calculator uses standard state rates.
